Bårdshaug Herregård is a family-owned hotel and meeting venue located in the center of Orkanger, a 30-minute drive southwest of Trondheim.
At Bårdshaug Herregård you have the option to stay in a modern hotel room within the hotel or in a historic hotel room in our venerable manor house. We host parties, events, meetings, courses, and conferences in the grand rooms of the manor house as well as in the hotel's modern facilities. In Restaurant Ministeren we welcome both guests staying with us and locals to enjoy a delicious, seasonal culinary experience.

The Norway Building
Experience the incredible history of the stave church building from 1893.
"The Norway Building," was Norway's contribution to the 1893 Chicago World`s Fair. The pavilion was produced using the "prefabrication method," pioneered by M. Thams & Co here in Orkanger, and transported to America by ships departing from Orkedalsøren. This marked the beginning of an extraordinary journey for the pavilion, which, after 123 years in the USA, returned to Orkanger with the help of the enthusiasts behind "Project Heimatt."

The history of Bårdshaug Herregård
1860
The beginning
Bårdshaug farm was built on Bårdshaugen in 1860. Christian Thams purchased the farm in 1890 and began its renovation. It took 14 years before the extensive work was completed. The result was a distinctive manor and a unique sight in the countryside. Today's Bårdshaug is largely preserved as it was in Thams' time, with a blend of international architecture and national romantic tradition, in styles ranging from Norse to Louis XVI. The furnishings and decorations from all parts of the world tell much about the man who lived there.
1890
Baronesse de Spengler
During his studies in Switzerland, Christian Thams met a young Dutch-born baroness, Sarah Sybille Francoise Antoinette Eleonore Baronesse de Spengler. They married on August 25, 1886, when he was 19 and she was 18 years old. She was a beautiful, independent, and modern woman with a penchant for the artistic aspects of singing and theater. During Thams' many gatherings at Bårdshaug, she was most interested in the cultural aspects.

2015
Third-generation hosts at Bårdshaug Herregård
We are the third generation of hosts at Bårdshaug Herregård. We grew up with our parents in the hotel business, spending all our childhood and teenage years here in Orkland. This is where we played when we were little and where we had various summer and part-time jobs over the years. After spending a few years each in different locations outside the valley, we made the decision to return home in 2015 and take over the management of the hotel. We love countryside and the business and want to contribute to its further development. We have many ideas for the future and dream of making this one of the country's best historical hotels.

The manor is now part of the hotel operations at the family-owned Bårdshaug Herregård, and the beautiful parlors on the first floor are frequently used as banquet halls, just as they were in Thams' time.
Travelling to Bårdshaug Herregård
Orkanger is located along the E39 highway, and is a central hub in the region. It is a 30 minutes’ drive away from Trondheim, Løkken, Lensvik, Kyrksæterøra, Melhus and the E6 near Klett. The distance from Trondheim Airport Værnes is approximately one hour. From Røros, Oppdal and Hitra it will take you a couple of hours by car. Travelling by public transport? The hotel is a two minute walk from Orkanger bus station. From here there are frequent bus services to and from Trondheim. See ATB for bus schedules.

- 60 minutes by car from Trondheim Airport Værnes
- From Røros, Oppdal and Hitra it will take you a couple of hours by car.
