An exciting tour into the mines at Løkken
Join us on a tour into the Old Mine at Løkken. The guides who accompany you through the Old Mine at Løkken will share insights into various mining techniques used over four centuries of mining and the equipment utilized. The journey to Løkken from Bårdshaug Herregård takes approximately 20 minutes by car or 50 minutes by the historical Thamshavn Line. At Løkken, you’ll venture into the mine tunnels. This is an exciting journey back to 1654 when miners grappled with the challenges of the mountain and worked tirelessly against water and difficult conditions.
From the moment you enter the gate to Gammelgruva until you exit, you feel like you are in a completely different world. Whether you walk through narrow passages or large mountain halls, you have rock on all sides around you. The structure inside the mountain is solid and varied, and Gammelgruva is said to be Norway’s most colorful mine. When the light hits the mountain sides, a color display emerges that you have never seen before in rock. In addition, you will experience both sounds and smells that are completely different in the mountains. The highlight is the fantastic Fagerlisalen, which can also be used for dinners and as a cultural arena for up to 300 guests.
The guided tour lasts about 1 hour, and participants must be able to walk 800 meters and climb some stairs. The mine passages can be narrow in some places, and visitors must tolerate high humidity. It may be useful to have an alternative arrangement for those who may have challenges with one or more of these points. We are happy to assist!
A visit to the mines can easily be combined with a ride on the historical Thamshavn Line, a visit to the Orkla Industrimuseum, or dining at Sans Bergmannskroa.
